Limited Edition Marketing

On January 29, 2024, I was invited back on Arirang TV’s NEWs GENERATION for my third appearance as a panelist and my fifth appearance on the show overall.
I had the chance to talk about the popular marketing strategy to label new products as limited edition, ranging from clothes and video game characters to even chips (as seen by the thumbnail of the video showing ‘Muktaekkang,’ a pepper-mayonnaise flavored dried pollack cracker).
As I mention during the program, we talk a lot about ‘herd mentality’ here in Korea, and I think that applies to limited edition products as well, because you want products from the most popular companies and brands, yet still need to stand out from others - a part of human instinct. The act of reselling these highly desired-items have now become a form of investment for many, but the catch with such a marketing strategy is that it fosters careless spending when trends change, and a new limited edition item will come around in a few months or so.
Finally, I want to add that I was surprised by how Arirang TV initially found and reached out to me - they contacted me via my website, having seen some of the related articles and features that I’ve had the honor to be a part of, I’m assuming. Just goes to show how this website and many of the other initiatives I’ve taken have helped me in the long term!

On November 29, 2023, I was reinvited on <NEWs GENERATION> by Arirang TV as an in-studio panelist to discuss the issue of ‘kangaroo tribes’ in Korea.
Having already been on the program, which focuses on trends and current affairs from the perspectives of young people, on the topic of Korean universities’ campus-based discrimination and UN Day as an interviewee, I had a fantastic time joining in-person and sharing my own thoughts and opinions!
