I’m incredibly honored to share that I received the University Life Award for the Fall 2022 semester during Mason Korea’s Spring 2023 Celebration of Achievement event held last week Wednesday.

The University Life Award

The University Life Award recognizes “a student leader who has demonstrated a high level of engagement in several student organizations and activities at Mason Korea, and has displayed high level of leadership and commitment to excellence and serving the Mason Korea community.”

Fall 2022

During the Fall 2022 semester, I was a part of Mason Korea Student Government as its RSO & Student Organization Representative (a position equivalent to our current Secretary of University Life with our transition complete). During my time at Student Government last semester, I was responsible and took initiative for:
  • Attending and helping various RSO-led or organized events in tandem with the Office of University Life, such as the Student Engagement Fair and RSO Info Session
  • Creating a channel for communication between leaders of RSOs and student organizations, Student Government, PAC, and the Office of University Life via PAC, relaying or making important announcements and responding to questions and concerns in a timely manner
  • Individually reaching out to RSO and student organization leaders for event recruitment, such as the IGC Music Festival and Halloween event, and scheduling IGC facilities, especially with sports and dance related RSOs
  • Working with the IGC Foundation and other Student Affairs / University Life Offices on campus to fix and agree upon a semesterly schedule for facilities up for use by student organizations, such as the Gym, Soccer Field, Dance Room, Music Room, and individual RSO Rooms
Additionally, I was also involved in Mason Korea’s various student organizations and programs, as the Senior Editor-in-Chief for Asian Boss NEXT, a Chingu+ Program Leader, Resident Advisor, Global Student Ambassador, and an Intern at the Office of Admissions & Enrollment.

A Thank You

In my Activities Report that I wrote at the end of the Fall 2022 semester for Student Government, I mentioned that:
Never would I have thought to have immersed myself in the Mason Korea community to this extent back when I was first admitted in the Spring semester of 2022; looking back, the encouragement I have received from various peers in and outside of the Student Government has led to where I am today as its Registered Student Organization (RSO) & Student Organization Representative, with much more to come in the upcoming academic year(s) and semesters. My time in the Student Government has been without a doubt fruitful, connecting with members – students, faculty, and staff all included – and more importantly, developing myself in a more responsible and open manner.
This is something that I wholeheartedly stand by today. A mere year and a half after coming to Mason Korea, every day and moment here still feel incredibly surreal to me, where I am and what I do. I’m honored to represent a student body that has been so welcoming together with faculty and staff that have been supportive of every initiative I’ve taken so far.
This isn’t the end by any means - it’s more of a promise, a pledge to do more. Student Government will always be committed to serve our community’s needs, driven and invigorated by purpose.
